SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE

The prayer life of a Christian can sometimes become tiresome, especially if you don’t feel like praying. We hope our simple prayers centered around everyday life will provide some guidance and help you grow in your prayer life.

When You Don’t Feel Like Worshipping

So, you’re just not feelin’ it this week. You made the effort of getting up, you drove to church, but in the middle of song 2 of 3, you admit that your heart and mind couldn’t be further away. Guilt sets in, and you try to focus, but even as you read the words on the screen, they feel emptier than normal (or flat out unbelievable).

It happens. To all of us. But the good news is, worship doesn’t always have to look a certain way. Actually, as you experience different seasons, concerns, and stressors, instead of trying to force yourself into insincere “focused worship,” practice worship by bringing those things to God.

Worship is all about honoring God with your life. Stress, anxiety, fear, doubt and insecurity are part of life, and they can be part of your worship, too.

God doesn’t ask you to clean yourself up to come to him. He loves you as you are.

“This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins” (1 John 4:10).

So when you don’t feel like worshipping, come to him—you, and whatever is on your mind.

A Prayer for Worship When You Don’t Feel Like it

God who loved us in our mess, help me to believe your love for me today. I know what it feels like to be overwhelmed by how completely you love me, and I know the joy of responding to that love in worship. I’m just not there today. God of mountain tops and canyons, meet me in the shadow of this valley. Today, take this small seed of desire as my sacrifice of praise. Amen.
