A Prayer Before Sharing the Gospel

SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE

Mark 5:19

Trying to build a prayer life can be difficult—whether you don’t know how to pray or you don’t feel like praying. So we’re here to help you connect with God with simple prayers for the everyday.

How Do I Tell People About Jesus?

What comes into your mind when you read “sharing the Gospel”? Fear? Joy? Pressure? A way to make your pastor happy? Something we should all care more about?

Terms like evangelism—spreading the good news about Jesus—can be uncomfortable to some and an exciting invitation to others. It’s also a pretty misunderstood concept. Sometimes people feel the need to find strangers on the street, interrupt whatever it is they’re up to, and try to engage them in conversation. Others feel pretty passionate about needing to have a personal relationship with someone first. And then most of us, let’s be real, just avoid this altogether! 😅

It doesn’t need to be so complicated. Sharing the good news that Jesus rescues us from sin and death and invites us into a better life with him, is kind of like talking about your favorite sports team or favorite restaurant. Of course, it’s more important than those things, but talking about Jesus should be just as easy as sharing about other things you’re passionate about.

So next time you feel called to share the Gospel or know that you’re getting ready to hang out with a friend where it might come up, check out this Scripture and pray this prayer.

“Jesus…said, ‘Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.’” (Mark 5:19).

A Prayer Before Sharing the Gospel

Jesus, I have found so much joy in following you, and you have done so much for me. I’m thankful for your kindness, forgiveness, healing, and comfort. I want everyone to know what it’s like to do life with you and be filled with your Spirit. Help me know when and where to tell others about how you’ve met me and changed my life. Help me to truly listen and ask good questions. Help me to really care about others, and first show them your love. Holy Spirit, please give me your words. Amen.
