SCRIPTURE REFERENCE
Trying to build a prayer life can be difficult—whether you don’t know how to pray or you don’t feel like praying. So we’re here to help you connect with God with simple prayers for the everyday.
Healthy Love
Some of us have become…suspicious of love. Or maybe cynical is the better word.
Not just romantic love, but love in general. We’ve experienced too many distorted versions of it: love mixed with insecurity, manipulation, comparison, inconsistency, or fear. And over time, it can become difficult to believe that love could ever be steady, honest, or safe.
But Scripture begins with a different story. Love was created by God, who is Love, long before it was complicated by human brokenness. And throughout Scripture, we see that God’s love is not shallow or indifferent. His love is faithful, patient, attentive, and enduring (you can check out the longer list in 1 Corinthians 13). Song of Solomon reminds us that this kind of love is worth taking seriously—and ultimately, we see the fullest expression of love in Jesus, who moves toward us with compassion, sacrifice, and unwavering faithfulness. Love like this reshapes the way we love others.
This prayer is for anyone trying to relearn what love actually is, not through the false versions we’ve inherited, but through the character of God himself.
“Many waters cannot quench love;
rivers cannot sweep it away” (Song of Solomon 8:7a)
A Prayer for Relearning Love
God of love, you created love before we tainted it with comparison, insecurity, and pain, and you called it good. Teach me how to receive love without suspicion, and how to give it without fear. Where my understanding has been shaped by distortion, reshape it with what is true. And help me believe that your love is not distant or abstract, but near, personal, and deeply attentive. Let the way I love others be formed by the way you love me. Amen.
