SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE

The Christian prayer life can sometimes feel stale. It doesn’t mean your faith is weak, or that you’re doing something wrong—so don’t get hung up on it! It just happens. But if you want to connect with God and don’t know how to pray, or simply don’t feel like praying…then these everyday prayers are for you.

Where Should We Go?

Written by Madi Franks from Providence University

There are many people whose ideal life is marked by staying close to home while others experience a deep-rooted desire to see God’s creation in other parts of the world. Hopping on a plane can be frightening, especially if you’re traveling over an ocean, and airports can be tricky to navigate. And, if you’ve decided 23 hours isn’t that long to drive? Well. We hope you’ve got a good playlist lined up.

Travel days are long, and jetlag can stick around for more time than you’d like. It’s all made worth it, though, when you eat a meal with a local resident of the country you’ve flown into, or when you see the sun rising over the ocean for the first time.

The same God we worship in our homes and local churches exists in the homes and local churches of the countries you have to cross the world to see. God is still God and does all of his God-things across the ocean. God is in you, and so wherever you go, there God will be too.

Traveling opens our eyes to see how much we depend on God, and how he’s at work throughout his world.

“Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me” (Psalm 139:7-10).

A Prayer for Traveling

Designer of diversity, Sculptor of cities and towns, thank you for the variety of people and landscapes I get to uncover. Every human highlights your creative character; every mountain and desert affirm you as Artist. Thank you that I get to see more of who you are by meeting more of the people and lands you’ve made. Different languages profess your praise; prairies and oceans confess you are God. It is all held in your hand. Keep me safe as I go from place to place. I rejoice that your Spirit stays with me wherever I go; send me constant reminders of this fact. Help me remember that my home is with you. Amen.

We believe a simple prayer like this helps us in our mission to creatively explore how we connect with God in the ordinary, extraordinary, everyday moments of life. For more everyday prayers, visit this page!
