A Prayer for Spiritual Healing

SCRIPTURE REFERENCE

Jeremiah 17:14

If you don’t know how to pray, getting started can feel strange. So, check out this simple prayer to help you grow in your prayer life, and connect with God today!

Faith Hurts Sometimes

If you’ve been around people, chances are you’ve been hurt. If you’ve been around church people, chances are that hurt came with an extra gut punch. After all— this is the body of Christ. These are the people we are supposed to recognize by the fruits of the spirit! By their love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Unfortunately, we tend not to embody all of these qualities, even on our best of days. And, on our worst days? Lord, have mercy.

Still, there’s nothing quite like suffering because of your faith community, or someone specifically within it… except maybe feeling betrayed or abandoned by God. Why did he allow _____ to happen? Why did our prayer go unanswered? Why isn’t he showing up more clearly in ______ situation?

We all carry deep wounds. And sometimes, those injuries make it hard to be vulnerable. It’s painful to trust God again. Other times, when we were the ones to cause the hurt? It’s hard to trust ourselves again.

In these moments, we find it’s important to be honest with him– about our past pain and our current fears. About the ways we want to trust him… and why it might be hard to do so.

God can bind these broken wounds– he carried many of them himself.

We hope this prayer and scripture can help you step out in hope and in love and take a small step toward spiritual healing.

“Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed;

    save me, and I shall be saved,

    for you are my praise” (Jeremiah 17:14).

A Prayer for Spiritual Healing

Repairer of ruins, I long to be closer to you, but my faith feels fragile. From the ways I’ve been treated by others, from the brokenness in your church… Lord, even because of times I’ve felt forsaken by you— I’m afraid to open myself up again. God, heal me. Holy Spirit, restore me. Jesus, help me believe that you truly desire my best. Free me from shame, guilt, bitterness, and anger, and instead, show me how to trust you more each day. Please, Father, make your unending love for me apparent and tangible. Amen.
