Trying to build a prayer life can be difficultโ€”whether you donโ€™t know how to pray or you donโ€™t feel like praying. So weโ€™re here to help you connect with God with simple prayers for the everyday.ย

There Are No Right Words

The shock of reading a text from a friend and finding out someone close to them just passed away. What do you text back?ย

โ€œIt will be okayโ€ฆโ€ [hold down backspace and delete text]

โ€œGod is in controlโ€ฆโ€ [hold down backspace and delete text]

โ€œIโ€™m so sorry. Praying for you.โ€ย

That last text doesnโ€™t feel like enough, does it? We want to do more. But thereโ€™s nothing we can say to make it better. And whether we feel like it or not, turning our hearts toward God and praying is actually doing a lot more than we sometimes like to give it credit for. So, if you donโ€™t know what to say? Youโ€™re in good company. If you donโ€™t know what to do? Yep, weโ€™re there too.ย

Hereโ€™s the prayer we pray for a grieving friend when thatโ€™s all we know to do.ย

โ€œJesus weptโ€ (John 11:35).

A Prayer for a Grieving Friend

Weeping God, who cries when your friends are grieving, help ____________ know you are walking through this pain with them. Comforter, may you give them a tangible sense of your presence, and may they feel your arms of love holding them in their loss. Prince of Peace, fill them in heart and mind with your stable and life-giving Spirit. Help me to know how to be present with them without trying to fix anything, and give me the right words to say at the right time. Amen.ย ย
