Re-Centering an Aimless Life
When was the last time you felt apathetic and aimless?
We find Psalm 8:5–8 to be really centering when it comes to an aimless life—or at least one that feels aimless. This passage reminds us of a simple, often overlooked, but really important aim God has given us: maintain order in creation.
What small ways can you bring a little sense of order to the chaos that surrounds you? Maybe it starts with caring for a growing plant.
Or taking an extra 5 minutes to reflect on a specific way your favorite furry friend is a blessing to you.
When we experience aimlessness in life, caring for, appreciating, and learning more about creation reminds us of the significance we can find in simply leaning into the responsibility God gave us over all the awesome stuff he created on this earth.

Psalm 8:5–8
5 You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honor.
6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their feet:
7 all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
8 the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.
Observations from the Text
- God has crowned us with glory and honor (v. 5)
- God trusts us to care for the “works of his hands” (v. 6)
- We have a responsibility to care for all of creation (v. 7–8)

Lord, today I need your help to care for _________, because I feel like that’s a part of your creation that’s under my area of influence, and I want to steward it well.
As I _________ today, I will take time to appreciate some of the animals, creatures and nature you’ve made for us to enjoy!
