Trying to build a prayer life can be difficult—whether you don’t know how to pray or you don’t feel like praying. So we’re here to help you connect with God with simple prayers for the everyday.
I’m Too Busy
Busyness is more than just too many activities. It’s the heaviness our brains feel when we have too many things to think about. It’s the extra heavy heartbeat that comes when we think we may let others down. It’s feeling in-over-our-heads. We may find ourselves holding our breath, longing for a day off, or feeling desperate for quiet space.
When we feel busy, we tend to get a bit short with others. Maybe we start to feel cynical. Perhaps we even ignore the texts of our closest friends because we don’t want to hang out.
For some of us, slowing down is as simple as saying, “no” to a few things and taking some time off. For others, however, it may feel like you’re in an impossible place to slow down (#ToddlerLife or #NewJob or #I’mAPastor).
Regardless of where you’re at, consider taking a few deep breaths with us as we think about this Scripture and pray this prayer.
“It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones” (Psalm 127:2).
A Prayer for Slowing Down
Rest-filled Father, even you took a break from hard work and enjoyed your creation through Sabbath rest. Jesus, you often secluded yourself in lonely places with the Father to pray and reenergize. Peaceful Spirit, you are the helper Jesus promised, and the calming presence I need right now. Help me, God, to trust you with my work and life, renew in your presence, and lean on you for help and strength. Amen.
We believe a simple prayer like this helps us in our mission to creatively explore how we connect with God in the ordinary, extraordinary, everyday moments of life. For more everyday prayers, visit this page!
