Philippians 4:11-13

I Feel Disappointed with My Life

Are you comparing where you are to where you hoped you’d be by now? That’s one of the quickest ways to lead yourself down a spiral where you’re consumed by thoughts like, “I feel disappointed with my life.”

Unless you’re basically a superhero and have managed to achieve all of your dreams already, at some point, you’ve probably had that thought, or a similar one.

We want to keep pushing forward towards our goals, but with a mindset of appreciation and gratitude for how far we’ve come. 

Knowing God really is key to finding contentment, even as we keep pushing forward. Philippians 4:11–13 reminds us of that in a cool way. Check out this Scripture meditation through this short passage for some encouragement, especially if you’re thinking, “I feel disappointed with my life!” 

Philippians 4:11–13

11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 

12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 

13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

Observations from the Text

  • With God, we can find contentment in any situation (v. 11)
  • We will experience both need and plenty (v. 12)
  • God is the one who strengthens us (v. 13)

Prayers of Response

God, I praise you because when I really needed _________, you came through for me.

Lord, it doesn’t feel like I’ve learned the “secret of being content in any every situation” because _________. 

Prayer Requests

I pray that you remind _________ (name) that they can get through _________, because you will give them the strength they need. 

God, please help me to find peace whether or not I’m able to _________. 

Prayers of Readiness

Lord, I know that I can _________, because you’ll give me the strength to accomplish it.

Father, even though I need _________ right now, I will still look for the ways you have provided plenty.
