Scripture Meditation: Psalm 1:1-3

SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE

Psalm 1:1-3

“Is the Bible relevant today?” Stories from hundreds of years ago, weird names, suuuuper long chapters. It doesn’t always feel relevant. But to read Scripture is another way for God to provide comfort, clarity, and wisdom. These Scripture meditations can help you figure out how to get started reading the Bible.

Put Your Roots Down

Make sure you put your roots down in a place you’ll thrive. Because if you can be rooted in good soil, even in the midst of chaos, you’ll find steadiness, and be able to be a place of relief for others, too.

If you’re a visual person, you’re gonna enjoy the imagery in today’s Scripture Meditation. Check out Psalm 1!

Scripture: Psalm 1:1-3

1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.

What This Teaches Us about God

  • He gives us his instruction to delight in (v. 2)
  • He is our source of life (v. 3)
  • He wants us to thrive (v. 3)

Prayers of Response

Thank you, Lord, for preserving the Scriptures, especially _________, because they’re such a steady guidepost to help me understand more about who you are.

Even though I chose to _________, which felt like the “right” thing, it seems like I’ve experienced more consequences than blessings as a result.

Prayer Requests

Lord, I know that _________ (name) feels really uprooted in their current season. Please help them find stability in you.

If _________ is the right place for me, please show me practical ways to really dig in and plant myself there.

Prayers of Readiness

Because it’s live-giving, I want to practice meditating on Scripture more by _________.

Lord, I hope you’ll bless my effort in _________, because I need your help to be “fruitful” in that area of my life so that others can be blessed by it, too.
