Scripture Meditation: Micah 6:6-8

SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE

Micah 6:6-8 “Is the Bible relevant today?” This can sometimes be a question we ask ourselves when reading the Bible. So, we compiled Scripture meditations like this one to help see reasons why the Bible is relevant, and to help us connect with God.

What Does God Want?

Feeling overwhelmed by tragedy lately? We live in a time where death can seem victorious, greed triumphs over charity, and people made in God’s image are used, abused, and forgotten. It seems like every day, the burden of brokenness grows heavier.

Sometimes it feels like we’re in over our heads. There’s too much work to be done, and we can’t do it alone. We begin to lose hope and feel defeated because we can’t speak into every debate or cause. The pressure’s too great, and the time and resources are too little.

Thankfully, God doesn’t ask us to do it all. Nor does he ask us to do it alone. What does he ask us to do in the face of a broken world? The prophet Micah shows us God’s perspective on our role in restoration:

Micah 6:6-8

6 With what shall I come before the Lord

and bow down before the exalted God?

Shall I come before him with burnt offerings,

    with calves a year old?

7 Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams,

with ten thousand rivers of olive oil?

Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression,

the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?

8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.

And what does the Lord require of you?

To act justly and to love mercy

and to walk humbly with your God.

Observations from the Text

  • We should consider what God actually wants from us (v 6)
  • Our gifts don’t have to be extravagant (v 7)

  • God walks alongside us as we seek him (v 8)
