Rest was always a part of God’s plan for us. When God rested on the 7th day, everything was still good and perfect in the world. He didn’t rest because he was tired, or because he needed a break (he’s God, after all). He rested so he could have the opportunity to enjoy his creation. And, this is the enjoyment he meant for us as well.

Rest looks a bit different now post-fall, but it’s not any less important. If anything, recognizing the limitations that God has given us can be a gift. We have the opportunity to stop our work and trust that God will continue to sustain us.

We need rest. If you’re having trouble finding it, take a minute to slow down and try this breath prayer with us.

“For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath” (Matthew 12:8).

Breath Prayer is a way of aligning your breathing with a short prayer or psalm, in order to slow you down and draw you closer to God. You only need a line or two of scripture to help ground and comfort you in the truths of his nearness and his love.

Sit back… clear your head… breathe…. and do nothing. In today’s age that’s an impossible task. The stress of yesterday and today overflows into the future. Accomplishing tasks gives us time to accomplish more tasks!

The unfortunate truth is that it’s hard to do nothing. As in shutting off your brain, not worrying about anything, or being concerned with any sort of productivity. Laying on the couch, staring off into la la land, or sitting on the porch— this is all part of the sweet science of doing nothing!

Would you depict Christ as a driven go-getter and task-minded zealot? Or a simple, loving, nap-taking Rabbi who would wake early mornings to hike in the mountains, or go on a stroll through a farm on a Sunday.

If Christ knew to rest and reflect, then he knew to do nothing. No agenda, no concern, no time limit— absolutely nothing.

The present and future will forever be filled with tasks and worries, but in heaven, there’s nothing to get done. It was and it remains finished on the cross. Nothing to worry about, nothing to accomplish… Do nothing.

If slowing down and taking time to relax is something you struggle with as much as we do, here’s a Scripture and prayer to encourage you to do nothing.

“So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34).

𝐀 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠
Lord of rest, you made the universe in a week and on the 7th day, you did nothing. Teach me to do nothing as well... Amen.

Put your hope in Jesus… He is FAITHFUL!

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful | Hebrews 10:23

If you know Jesus and what He has done, you can place your hope on solid ground.

Jesus is faithful, and His promises will be fulfilled.

We get so easily distracted by politics, relationships, finances, anything… and understandably so. How can we not, when those things are constantly pushed in our faces to take up our time, energy, and attention.

But we have a choice to make… become consumed by it, OR place our trust, our faith, our HOPE in Jesus because we know He has already overcome the world.

We can stress and worry, but that should not last for long because we have Jesus, and He strengthens us and comforts us. He is the light at the end of the tunnel!

Keep your eyes on Jesus today!!! Amen!

Have you thought about how rich you are lately? Ha, probably not. Bills are due, groceries need to be bought, and if you could just pay off ______, you might have money for ______ 😫.

Yet, we don’t measure wealth the same way as the world (though physically, we often do overlook the blessings we have compared to others).

But spiritually? Well, those are the riches that we really depend on, and with Jesus, our cups run over— even without what the world might consider “real” wealth. He has given us his grace and his Spirit. Through these things, we also can have the kind of “simple” abundance we see modeled in his life. One where we become rich in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Try this breath prayer with us.

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich” (2 Corinthians 8:9).

Breath Prayer is a way of aligning your breathing with a short prayer or psalm, in order to slow you down and draw you closer to God. You only need a line or two of scripture to help ground and comfort you in the truths of his nearness and his love.

The ordinariness of today contains God’s invitation to find meaning in the everyday stuff of life.

While the specific tasks and “to do’’s from today might not feel significant, those ordinary moments are what make up the majority of our lives. Join us in this prayer for today as we reclaim meaning in the small moments, the big ones, and everything between!

𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞
“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31).

𝐀 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲
Creator God, who took what was formless and void and gave it shape and meaning, reclaim today and these small seemingly insignificant moments. One who filled emptiness with beauty and gave all creatures their purpose, help me discover meaning in the mundane. Ordain the very ordinariness of these tasks, or my current lack of them, for your glory, the good of the world, and my good. Amen.
