God Help Me Sleep!



1:14 am. 

1:26 am. 

2:01 am.

2:17 am. Is there anything worse than being desperately tired, but unable to fall asleep? 

2:22 am. Maybe there’s a trip the next day, and you don’t want to miss an early flight. 

2:29 am. Or maybe you had a stressful day, and a conversation is going round and round in your head.

3:04 am. Or maybe you just can’t sleep. And every time you check the time, you see another reminder that your alarm clock is closer to going off, but you are less likely than ever to get a restful night’s sleep. 

4:12 am. God, help me sleep!

“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety” (Psalm 4:8).

When we can’t sleep, here’s what we pray at 2, and 3, and 4am.

A Sleep Prayer for Insomnia

God who never slumbers, but created me with limits and a need for rest, please let me sleep! Fill my mind and heart with peace. Remove distractions and pressures that are keeping me awake. If you’re keeping my eyes open and mind alert for a reason, please guide me into prayer or show me why tonight, of all nights, I can’t sleep in peace. And if tomorrow comes, and I have not found adequate rest, help me lean on you as my strength. Amen.
