SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE

The Christian prayer life can sometimes feel stale. It doesn’t mean your faith is weak, or that you’re doing something wrong—so don’t get hung up on it! It just happens. But if you want to connect with God and don’t know how to pray, or simply don’t feel like praying…then these everyday prayers are for you.

Overwhelmed and Alone

The desire to do right by others + others asking too many things of you = feeling overwhelmed and alone

Overwhelmed because, well, there are that many things to do.

Alone? Because it feels like no one understands the demands they’ve put on your shoulders. And when you try to point out how much you have on your plate, something in their facial expression or tone of voice just proves they don’t get it. If anything, you actually feel like they are looking at you with judgment in their eyes and maybe thinking, “What a baby! Get over yourself.”

Well friends, we are writing this out of our own experiences and are right there with you. Which is why we keep this “prayer for when you’re feeling overwhelmed and alone” in our back pockets. We love the reminder that a “calm and quiet soul” isn’t out of reach (Psalm 131:2a, ESV).

You might want to save this one too.

Oh, and one more thing—just a quick reminder from a friend that also struggles with living up to others expectations—you can’t do everything, so what little you have time to do, do it really well, and don’t worry about the rest.

A Prayer for When You’re Feeling Overwhelmed and Alone

Jesus, you do not lay heavy burdens on us, but guide us with expectations that are easy and light. Spirit, you pray for us in our weaknesses, and guide us in our confusion. Father, you forgive us for mistakes, and give us good gifts. Meet me, Trinity, in feeling overwhelmed and alone. Let unnecessary striving cease, and guide me to healthy rhythms of work and rest. Help me calm and quiet my soul in your presence as I face the expectations of this day. Amen.

We believe a simple prayer like this helps us in our mission to creatively explore how we connect with God in the ordinary, extraordinary, everyday moments of life. For more everyday prayers, visit this page!
