Lamentations 3:21-23


The Christian prayer life can sometimes feel stale. It doesn’t mean your faith is weak, or that you’re doing something wrong—so don’t get hung up on it! It just happens. But if you want to connect with God and don’t know how to pray, or simply don’t feel like praying…then these everyday prayers are for you. 

 

I’m So Lonely

It seems like this world wasn’t designed for us introverts.

We know feelings don’t dictate reality. And yet, we still have these feelings that tell us we’re unworthy of someone’s time and love. Everywhere we go, we’re told to “step outside our comfort zones” and to “speak up.” We’re told we must dislike people, when in truth, we can only enjoy large crowds or certain people in small doses. We’re told if we want friends, WE need to be the ones to put in the work for these friendships, or risk being forgotten.

This isn’t to hate on extroverts. We need people who have higher capacities for social interaction, just as much as we need individuals who are willing to sit through the quiet.

But it’s easy to get lonely when it feels like no one is coming. And sometimes you’re right; no physical person is coming to comfort you or cease your loneliness. 

So, what can you do? 

If anything, remember this much is true: God came for us long before we went to Him. And He continues to consider us worthy of His pursuit. Not because we ever did anything ourselves to deserve this, but because of His perfect love and loyalty to us, even in our sins. 

So, for those times when it feels like you’re going to be all alone again, here’s a prayer and a verse to bring some comfort: 

“Yet I call this to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:21-23).

A Prayer for When No One Is Coming

Lord over loneliness, thank you for the way you created me. Thank you for the limits you’ve set in my life, so I’m able to serve you well. But today I’m unsure of whether or not anyone is coming. I want to trust my friends, but it’s hard. And I feel so lonely most of the time. Help me to remember your faithful love is new every morning and continues even when I’m asleep. Give me the strength to reach out to my friends in the times I need them to be there. Amen.
