The Christian prayer life can sometimes feel stale. It doesn’t mean your faith is weak, or that you’re doing something wrong—so don’t get hung up on it! It just happens. But if you want to connect with God and don’t know how to pray, or simply don’t feel like praying…then these everyday prayers are for you.
Selfish Parents Got You Stressin’
When it comes to dealing with that stressful parent, it’s been a week.
Mom called to vent about the drama between her and your sister and (quite frankly), you didn’t want to hear about it. Or maybe dad made yet another guilt-inducing comment about needing more help taking care of the house (even though you were just there playing handyman over the weekend).
Sometimes it feels like they come to you with all of their baggage and needs and complaints, and don’t give a rip about how you’re doing. More than likely that’s not the whole story—they’re probably just too consumed by their own woes to think about anything else. Still: it’s frustrating.
But despite the frustration, they’re your parents, and you care about them. When it feels like they’re tossing their cares onto you, remember that God invites you to put it all on him:
“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken” (Psalm 55:22).

Compassionate Father, who so lovingly cares about my anxiety and stress, help me to reflect that compassion to my parent(s). Let your patience guide my conversations and responses to their needs and requests. Give me wisdom to set boundaries, and peace to serve them in the ways you’ve called me to. Ultimately, when it comes to dealing with my selfish parent(s), I pray that you bring peace to this relationship, and to my spirit. Amen.
