Hitting The Road

Whether you’re traveling in pursuit of rest, to visit family, because of a death or sickness, to interview for a job, or for an adventure– we serve a God whose name is Immanuel, meaning God with us. 

In a way, you could say he’s a God who travels too. He is our true source of rest, relationship, healing, and direction. So, before you turn the key and crank up your road-trip playlist on Spotify, or while you’re sitting in the terminal waiting for your bus, train, or plane… pray this prayer for traveling and invite God on your trip with you. 

Psalm 139:7-8

7 Where can I go from your Spirit? 

    Where can I flee from your presence?

8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;

    if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,

    if I settle on the far side of the sea,

10 even there your hand will guide me,

    your right hand will hold me fast.

God of the road, rails, and sky, who travels with us because you’re always with us, join me on this journey to _____________. Guide me and protect me, not only on this trip, but in my life. As I interact with people, even the difficult ones, may I show them your love. As I discover new places, or visit familiar ones, help me sense your new and familiar presence. And may this journey be a reminder that we are all on a journey until we arrive at our ultimate destination of your home in the new heavens and earth. Amen.
