SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE

The prayer life of a Christian can sometimes become tiresome, especially if you don’t feel like praying. We hope our simple prayers centered around everyday life will provide some guidance and help you grow in your prayer life

How Can I Help the Poor?

Poverty can paralyze us. Think about if you’ve ever been to a missions conference, stumbled across a documentary about a 3rd world country, or watched an ad for an organization that provides food for needy children… In that case, you know what we’re talking about (even if the ad kind of annoyed you at first because you were just trying to listen to music on YouTube).

Experiences like this unnerve us because a) not all of us feel like we have much to give and b) it feels weird clicking on a link in a youtube video to give money to an organization we know nothing about and c) we might feel overwhelmed by just how much need there is in the world.

But…… we also know we should be generous with what we have, and we feel convicted to help alleviate the pain and suffering of those who have less than us.

So what the heck do we do?! Well, we start with this prayer. Maybe it will help you too.

“How does God’s love abide in anyone who has the world’s goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help?” (1 John 3:17).

A Prayer for the Poor

Generous God, who owns everything and gives good gifts to your children, help me be generous like you. Compassionate One, who empathizes with those who suffer, help me feel the pain of those who have nothing. Source of Wisdom, help me navigate the many opportunities to get involved and follow your lead to where you would have me participate in fighting poverty. Help me say “no” to what you would have me bypass, and help me say “yes” to any and all opportunities that come from you. Amen.
