SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE

The prayer life of a Christian can feel exhausting sometimes. Here is one of our simple prayers written to help you grow in your prayer life and connect with God, especially if you don’t feel like praying. Check it out!

Silence is Uncomfortable

Let’s be real, if there’s one thing most of us hate, it’s waiting. But there’s something most of us hate more…waiting in silence! 🤢🤮

Not silence as in our surroundings are quiet (although, that happens sometimes). Silence as in we’re just sitting there, with no distractions, nothing to do, and no one to talk to! Those moments when we get somewhere first and our phone dies, and all we can do is wait for our friends to show up. When we get stuck in standstill traffic and there’s nothing to listen to on the radio.

It’s just us…alone…without Instagram or ESPN or anything to distract our restless minds.

Here’s some good news about silent moments: they are bursting with an invitation to rest in God and listen for his voice. And sometimes, when the low battery sign flashes on our phones, and the distractions we typically reach for aren’t available, God gets excited because it means we have an undistracted moment to recognize he’s with us.

“For God alone my soul waits in silence, from him comes my salvation ” (Psalm 62:1).

Here’s a prayer we pray when we need help embracing a silent moment…

A Prayer for Silent Moments

Whispering God, who longs for us to hear your voice, and waits in the sheer silence for us to recognize your presence, meet me in this quiet moment. Silent my loud, tumultuous thoughts, and grant my brain rest. Help me let go of my distractions, and my desire to be distracted, to simply sit here with you. And, as the silence unsettles my spirit, let the waves of your peace and presence wash over me. Amen.
