SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE

The Christian prayer life can sometimes feel stale. It doesn’t mean your faith is weak, or that you’re doing something wrong—so don’t get hung up on it! It just happens. But if you want to connect with God and don’t know how to pray, or simply don’t feel like praying…then these everyday prayers are for you.

God Comforts Us in Our Troubles

The pain of being away from someone you love is real, friends.

Those moments of sadness after you talk to a friend or family member you haven’t seen in a minute. That sick feeling in your gut when you laugh with your sister on Facetime or help a friend from your hometown deal with a real-life issue they’re facing. The longing you feel when you talk to your significant other who might as well be on the other side of the planet. You just wish you could be with them.

Like Facetime is great, for real, but it’s still not the same. It’s so hard to be separated from those we love. So next time you feel the tears swelling, or wish you were home, or long for the company of a friend or partner who lives far away… here’s a verse and prayer that won’t make it alright, but hopefully bring some courage and comfort as you wait to be back with those you care about.

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever.” (John 14:16)

A Prayer for Living Far Away from Family and Friends

Immanuel, God who is with us, who never abandons us to cry on our own, but is our Comforter….be with me now as I tangibly feel the separation between me and _____________. Be with him too, and comfort him so he knows he’s not alone. Help me to stay present where I am, and trust that you have me exactly where you want me to be for now. And please protect him and bring the day soon when I can be with him again in person. Amen.
