SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE

The Christian prayer life can sometimes feel stale. It doesn’t mean your faith is weak, or that you’re doing something wrong—so don’t get hung up on it! It just happens. But if you want to connect with God and don’t know how to pray, or simply don’t feel like praying…then these everyday prayers are for you.

My Mind Won’t Stay Calm

It’s normal for random thoughts to pop into our minds– God gave us pretty cool brains! Sometimes, they’re humorous. Sometimes, they’re memories. But, other times, they’re something darker– a fear, a worry, a temptation. When we’re in a good place, it can be easy to acknowledge the thought, let it go, and move on with our lives.

But, it’s not always so simple. Intrusive thoughts can start to set-up-shop in our brains. We can tell ourselves it’s irrational, or not a big deal, but they still just won’t go away. For many of us, this can lead to utter emotional and mental exhaustion, not to mention a slew of other mental health struggles.

If you are noticing intrusive thoughts taking over your life– it’s okay to seek help, from a friend, mentor, and especially a professional therapist. God loves you as you are, and he desires your wholeness.

If you’re facing this struggle, like many of us have, here’s a prayer for a peaceful mind and clarity as you move forward… it’s okay if you need to use it more than once. Like, a lot more than once.

“He lifted me out of the slimy pit,

    out of the mud and mire;

he set my feet on a rock

    and gave me a firm place to stand” (Psalm 40:2).

A Prayer for Intrusive Thoughts

Refuge God, my world feels shaken and out of control. Ground me in the truth of your love. Remind me that you are with me in this suffering and that you do not judge me for what is beyond my control. Great Physician, deliver me from the prison of my mind. When my thoughts turn to disorder, return me to a peace that surpasses understanding. As I look toward your strength to wrestle with my intrusive thoughts, give me the wisdom to know when and how to seek help. Amen.
