Trying to build a prayer life can be difficult—whether you don’t know how to pray or you don’t feel like praying. So we’re here to help you connect with God with simple prayers for the everyday.

I Don’t Know What to Do

Decisions have difficulty levels.

Level 1: Which cereal do I want: Panda Puffs or Captain Crunch with Berries?

Level 5: Which college should I go to: state college or the big U?

Level 12: Is this the person I should marry? Should I take that job?

You probably don’t need this prayer if you’re standing in the cereal aisle at the grocery store, but if you do, by all means—may the Lord help you grab the right box. If you’re on a level 5 or up? You may be completely stressed out right now, well, if you’re human that is. Vulcans just make decisions based on the numbers. But if you’re human, and stressed out about your decisions, we have been there SOOOOO many times. That’s why we wrote this prayer. And just so you know, as we pull this together, we’re praying that you, wherever you are and whatever decision you are facing, would feel God’s real and tangible presence and peace in your decision.

“The human mind plans the way, but the Lord directs the steps” (Proverbs 16:9, NRSV).

A Prayer for Decision Making

Provider and Guide, please direct my steps. Peace-giver, fill me with deep breaths of trust in you as I consider the options before me. Faithful Friend, thank you that you do not leave me on my own, but walk with me through these decisions. Surround me with the right advice. Remove any options that would lead me away from your best. And help me trust that as I plan my way, you will guide my path. Amen.
