Scripture Meditation: 2 Samuel 10:11-12

SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE

2 Samuel 10:11-12

Knowing how to get started reading the Bible can be tricky. But don’t get discouraged! No matter how far you’ve come in your faith, everyone has struggled with reading the Bible at some point. That’s why we put together some Scripture meditations like this one to help you get started.

I Don’t Know What to Do Next

Feeling stuck in an impossible situation?

In 2 Samuel 10, Joab, the leader of Israel’s army, finds himself stuck between two opposing armies. There doesn’t seem to be an easy or clear way out.

Sometimes life feels that way; we find ourselves trapped between hardships and look around and wonder how we could possibly make it out alive. Sometimes there isn’t an easy and clear solution; just a bunch of “meh” options and seemingly no assurance that it’ll work out in the end.

So what does Joab do? He works with the options he has and makes a plan. More than that, he says he believes that, whatever God does with that plan, will be good. And then he moves forward with faith.

2 Samuel 10:11-12

“11 Joab said, ‘If the Arameans are too strong for me, then you are to come to my rescue; but if the Ammonites are too strong for you, then I will come to rescue you. 12 Be strong, and let us fight bravely for our people and the cities of our God. The LORD will do what is good in his sight.’”

Observations from the Text

  • Sometimes, we don’t have great options (v. 11)
  • We need to make the best choices we can (v. 12)
  •  God can work great things in all our circumstances, even when we don’t know what the outcome will be (v. 12)
