A Prayer for Brushing Your Teeth

SCRIPTURE REFERENCE

Psalm 19:14a

The prayer life of a Christian can sometimes become tiresome, especially if you don’t feel like praying. We hope our simple prayers centered around everyday life will provide some guidance and help you grow in your prayer life.

Tooth Care and Soul Care

Brushing your teeth — it’s one of those tasks so common, you could probably do it in your sleep. But even these small, mindless moments can become reminders of God’s presence. Because the same mouth you’re brushing (hopefully at least twice daily) speaks words that can be used to encourage, comfort, and share kindness or to tear down and disparage. As you brush away plaque and that pesky kernel of popcorn, consider how God might be cleansing your heart so that your words might better reflect his love and truth.

Here’s a scripture and a prayer to help you reflect on the power of your words.

“May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord” (Psalm 19:14a).

A Prayer for Brushing Your Teeth

Word made flesh, you spoke creation into being, and with your words bring life. May my own words reflect your truth and kindness. As I scrub away what doesn’t belong, cleanse me of any careless speech, sharp replies, and grumbling. Let my mouth be filled with praise, my voice with gentleness, and my words with grace. Amen.
