SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE

If you don’t know how to pray, getting started can feel strange. So, check out this simple prayer to help you grow in your prayer life, and connect with God today!

I Hate Change

Working in the service industry is tough, but sometimes that’s where we build strong friendships. There’s something that bonds two people together when they’ve both been cussed out by angry customers over handing them the wrong drinks. Or, after receiving a Christian tract instead of a tip (come on people, seriously stop that!). But then, that person you’ve bonded with, that person who made the job bearable, gets a different job. And soon, you’re working with a new person. A person who hasn’t been cussed out yet. A different person. An “I-don’t-know-if-I-like-them-yet” person.

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows” (James 1:17).

Oh, change! There’s nothing better than change (said no one ever). Change can destabilize us. It can make us doubt life. It can make us want to leave a job, or a church, or a city, or *cough* family. So, next time you’re dealing with destabilizing change, don’t run away before you pray this prayer with us.

A Prayer for Accepting Change

Faithful Father, who offers stable love and a grounding presence, help me navigate this change. In the midst of uncertainty, give me confidence in your abiding presence. Help my sense of real loss at what was, not disrupt the potential of new relationships and new opportunities. In the midst of this discomfort, keep me from making drastic decisions that may derail what you have for me. And, help me trust you no matter what. Amen.

The role of prayer in Christian life is powerful and helps us in our mission to creatively explore how we connect with God in the ordinary, extraordinary, everyday moments of life. For more everyday prayers, visit this page!
