SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE
If you don’t know how to pray, getting started can feel strange. So, check out this simple prayer to help you grow in your prayer life, and connect with God today!
Getting Ready for Therapy
The day has come and you’re feeling all the things. You’re nervous, kinda (?) excited, but also a little scared. You’re afraid of baring your soul to a stranger you barely know…but what you do know is that you need extra support from someone outside of your family and friends right now. So, you found a therapist and scheduled an appointment. You worry: Is this even a good idea?
Whether it’s your first session, or if you’ve been going for years, therapy can bring up a lot of different emotions, memories, past (or current) trauma, and grief that you’d rather just forget about… but these things keep affecting your everyday life, so you need to talk about them. Give yourself so much grace, compassion, and love during this time. Perhaps wear your favorite sweatshirt, get your favorite tea or coffee afterward, or go home and take a nap.
You’re doing such a great job, even if it doesn’t feel that way right now. Most importantly, remember that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. We’re proud of you. ❤️
Here’s a verse and prayer to remind you that God’s right there with you.
“You keep track of all my sorrows.
You have collected all my tears in your bottle.
You have recorded each one in your book” (Psalm 56:8).
A Prayer Before a Therapy Session
Wonderful Counselor, you are wise and know me better than I know myself. Thank you for helping me carry my pain. Go with me into my therapy session today. It’s such a vulnerable place to be in— sharing my past hurts, trauma, and grief with someone else. I’m also afraid of the discomfort that comes with exposing my wounds to the light… but God, your light can drive out the darkness. Use this time to bring healing, Lord. Thank you for gifting my therapist with the training and tools to help me process my current and past experiences. Remind me that getting help is a sign of strength, not weakness, and give me the courage to go and lean in. Amen.
