SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE

Trying to build a prayer life can be difficultโ€”whether you donโ€™t know how to pray or you donโ€™t feel like praying. So weโ€™re here to help you connect with God with simple prayers for the everyday.

Pray for All Leaders

Is it easier for you to pray for leaders who you voted for? Or leaders you didnโ€™t vote for?

Many of us pray hard for those we believe are the right fit, and only complain about those who arenโ€™t. But when Christian author Paul wrote his encouraging letter to Timothy, he didnโ€™t say, โ€œpray for leaders you believe in.โ€ Paul encouraged Timothy to pray for all leaders (which seems to include those who arenโ€™t in elected positions too, like pastors, bosses, etcโ€ฆ).

โ€œI urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all peopleโ€”for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holinessโ€ (1 Timothy 2:1-2).

And this is kind of nice, isnโ€™t it? Because it means we donโ€™t have to stress out about the decisions or policies of those in positions of authority. Instead, we can bring our concerns to God, and leave our leaders in his hands.

So join us today, as we pray for our leaders, both the ones we voted for, and those we didnโ€™t.

A Prayer for Our Leaders

Ancient of Days, who holds time in your hands and has seen it all before, we lift up to you the decisions and policies of our government leaders. Specifically, help those we now name: __________. Guide them by your Holy Spirit to seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with you. Fill us with your peace and patience when they make decisions that we disagree with. And as we feel the uncomfortableness of living in a world that so often pursues the opposite of your wisdom and goodness, remind us that one day you will make all things right. Amen.
