SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE
Psalm 46:10 “Is the Bible relevant today?” This can sometimes be a question we ask ourselves when reading the Bible. So, we compiled Scripture meditations like this one to help see reasons why the Bible is relevant, and to help us connect with God.
Stillness & Solitude
Written by Julia Bitler, Lancaster Bible College
Often, I find myself trying to give to others, but I rarely take time to sit, be still, and receive from the Lord. Yet He continues to teach me that I can’t give to others when I haven’t received from Him myself. I’m amazed at how much of a difference it makes in my day when I sit and spend time with Jesus before I rush to accomplish and complete my to-do list. We live in an extremely fast-paced world, rarely willing to slow down.
We can do all the right things for God, but if we’re not taking time to be still in His presence and just be with Him, how much are we missing? God wants our hearts. He wants our attention. He wants us to be captivated by Him. God cares about our to-do lists, and the things that matter to us, but He cares most about our hearts. Like the Psalmist’s encouragement to slow down and trust Him, and Jesus’s encouragement to Martha in Luke 10, He’d rather we spend time sitting at His feet.
Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
Observations from the Text
- God wants us to be quiet with Him
- His name will be proclaimed everywhere
- The whole earth will know Him
