SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE

Reading the Bible is a fantastic way to connect with God. However, it can be hard to know how to start reading the Bible. So, we put together some Scripture meditations to help you get started reading Scripture

I Have So Much to Learn

James 1:5 tells us that when we ask God for wisdom, he’ll give it to us. But do we really know what we’re asking for?

Wisdom isn’t necessarily an answer, a step-by-step plan, or a specific command to get us where we want to go. The Oxford Languages Dictionary defines wisdom as “the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment.” So, when we ask God for wisdom, we’re asking for the tools we need to make good decisions, and not necessarily the “right answer.”

Sometimes, this wisdom will come from experiences. Or, maybe we encounter a passage of scripture that seems to have guidance for exactly what we’re searching for. Other times, we might get good advice from a godly friend. Other times still, wisdom might come from failures.

God’s wisdom is abundant, and he is happy to share it. Yet, when we ask for wisdom, it’s important to consider all of the different ways God might be trying to teach us.

James 1:5

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

Observations from the Text

  • We can always ask God to give us wisdom
  • God generously supplies wisdom
  • God doesn’t deem any of us more or less worthy to receive his wisdom; he gives it freely
