1 Peter 5:5-7

I Want to Be in Control

It takes humility to trust that Godโ€™s care for you is better than your own.

We make so many plans for ourselves. We know exactly what we need and how to get it, right? So when things donโ€™t go our way, we anxiously tighten the reins and try to white-knuckle our way back on course. But the more we attempt to control, the more we end up losing it.

What if Godโ€™s inviting us to let go? Thereโ€™s no need for self-preservation in Godโ€™s kingdom. Youโ€™ll get where youโ€™re going because God wants you to be there, and youโ€™ll get there right on time because heโ€™s never late (like a wizard ๐Ÿ˜œ?).

1 Peter 5:5-7

5 All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, โ€œGod opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.โ€

6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under Godโ€™s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.ย 

Observations from the Text

  • God honors humility (v. 5)
  • Godโ€™s strong enough to lift you up (v. 6)
  • God cares about you (v. 7)
