SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE

This Scripture meditation, as part of our Lent study, aligns our focus on connecting with God as we journey through Lent. Dive into this one below!

Journey Through Lent, Day 39: Good Friday

We hear about the fulfillment of God’s promises a lot. But, when will we actually see them come true?

Today, on this very Good Friday, we’re considering the certainty of God’s promises and how their fulfillment doesn’t always look how we’d expect.

Even though when we’re in a difficult season, waiting on God can feel endless, he is still moving and at work in our situations.

Think about this day 2000 years ago. The disciples had waited centuries for God to keep his promise and send a Savior, only to see him now– hanging on a cross. Imagine the confusion. The absolute devastation.

It can be hard for us to swallow, but God’s timing is always perfect. In the way of a perfectly loving father, he knows what’s best for us and when to move in our hardship.

Check out this Scripture meditation below for some encouragement in times of waiting.

2 Peter 3:8–9

8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance

What this teaches us about God

  • God’s timing is not the same as ours (v. 8)
  • He doesn’t forget about us (v. 9)
  • He knows when to act (v. 9)
