A Prayer for When You Struggle To Ask for Help

SCRIPTURE REFERENCE

Galatians 6:2

The Christian prayer life can sometimes feel stale. It doesn’t mean your faith is weak, or that you’re doing something wrong—so don’t get hung up on it! It just happens. But if you want to connect with God and don’t know how to pray, or simply don’t feel like praying…then these everyday prayers are for you.

How to Ask for Help

Some of us would rather carry the world on our shoulders than ask for a hand. It feels easier to say, “I’m fine,” than to admit we’re tired, overwhelmed, or just can’t do it alone. Maybe we’re afraid of being a burden, or maybe we’ve convinced ourselves we should be strong enough. But deep down, we know—we weren’t made to do life by ourselves. God designed us for community, for dependence on him and on others.

Scripture has so many examples of even the strongest people crying out for help, like the Psalmist who lamented: “Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer” (Psalm 61:1). Asking for help doesn’t make us weak—it makes us honest. And it makes space for God’s love to show up through the people around us.

If you’ve been white-knuckling life on your own lately, maybe this Scripture and prayer can help you take that first small step toward letting someone else in.

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2).

A Prayer for When You Struggle To Ask for Help

Jesus, Friend of the weary and Helper of the helpless, you once called out for water from the cross and asked for companionship in Gethsemane. You did not walk your hardest days alone. But I feel weak when I admit my need. Pride, fear, shame—they all get in the way. But you didn’t make me to do life alone. You gave me your Spirit, and you gave me people. Give me courage to reach out, and humility to receive. And when I do, let me see your love reflected in the ones who answer. Help me remember that you designed us to carry one another’s burdens and that asking for help is not failure, but faith. Amen.
