Why Is it Hard to Build a Relationship with God?
A “relationship” with God sounded so good, didn’t it? It made it sound like God would be close, so close. And that spending time with God would feel as real as when a good friend finds out you’re having a hard time and drops everything to meet up with you.
But now you find yourself asking, “Why is it hard to build a relationship with God?” Maybe you’re having a hard time believing God is even real. You throw out prayers, but they seem to bounce off the ceiling like unanswered phone calls.
So what do you do now? Well, here’s the prayer we pray when we feel so far from God:
A Prayer for When I Feel Far from God
God who draws near, come to me in this sense of separation, and help me draw near to you. Immanuel, “God with us,” please give me a tangible sense of your presence, and show me how you are close even now although I don’t feel it. And as I wait for you to meet me in my unbelief and distance, remind me that you never leave me or forsake me. And give me patience, God, to wait for resolution—trusting that you may be doing something good for me in this feeling of space between us. Amen.
