SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE

If you donโ€™t know how to pray, getting started can feel strange. So, check out this simple prayer to help you grow in your prayer life, and connect with God today!ย

Why Did It Happen to Me?

Whatโ€™s the memory from your childhood that still hurts? The memory that still causes emotion to stir in your gut? The one that we just triggered with this prayer and these questions, and maybe youโ€™re frustrated with us because you didnโ€™t want to think about that today? Perhaps it was a death. Perhaps it was when someone you thought was safe harmed you or yelled at you. Maybe you experienced physical, spiritual, sexual, psychological, or emotional abuse. You can probably remember the space where it happened, perhaps the smell of the person, or the room, or maybe the date and time. Or perhaps thereโ€™s an emotional and mental block of all those details because it just hurts too much.ย

Weโ€™re so sorry for what you experienced. We are so, so sorry.

Weโ€™re also convinced that God wants to meet you in your pain. He cares about your suffering, and we believe that one day God will bring healing. Weโ€™re hoping that todayโ€™s scripture and prayer might be a step on your journey.ย

โ€œPraise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from Godโ€ (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).

A Prayer for Healing Childhood Trauma

God of all Comfort, I need you right now. These emotions you gave me are mixed up and running wild. I can feel in my body the brokenness thatโ€™s still not healed, the sadness thatโ€™s still heavy, the fear that still follows me, the shame that still weighs on my heart, and the anger that this happened. I still donโ€™t understand why this was allowed, and I still sometimes doubt that youโ€™re good and care about me. God of all Comfort, I need you right now. Please be near. Jesus who wept for your friends, cry with me. Amen.ย ย

Quick note: We arenโ€™t mental health experts or medical professionals. If you havenโ€™t already, we would highly recommend reaching out to a professional counselor or therapist to process any trauma youโ€™ve experienced.ย
