Every Silent Plea
It’s exhausting because no matter how much I try to explain how it’s hurtful, they don’t get it. No matter how much I try to educate, they don’t want to listen. People have gotten angry at me, gaslighted me and my community:
“Can’t you take a compliment?”
“What about the mistreatment toward white people?”
“All people matter.”
Some even distanced themselves from me when I explained how their words and actions hurt my sense of identity. They swept my concerns under the rug:
“God didn’t create race.”
“I don’t see color.”
“That happened a long time ago.”
Chronic inflammation and disease run through our grandparents’ bloodlines due to distress. Systems of poverty and segregation are still in place. We are in so much pain. And I’m BIG mad, but somehow, they don’t hear me shouting. The earth has muted our tears and muffled our screams. But God is working in the heavenly realm. He hears every silent plea and promises to come to our rescue.
If you’re exhausted navigating a world of microaggressions and bias, here’s a scripture and prayer that cry out with you.
“The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them;
He delivers them from all their troubles.
The LORD is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:17-18).
A Prayer for Experiencing Microagressions
Creator God, the one who made night and day, the one who made black and white, the one who shows no partiality… Breathe life into our weary bodies. Minorities are tired of fighting. Be our help and our strength. Give us the words to pray when there’s nothing left. Defend us and protect us from harmful words and actions. Rejected Savior, soften our oppressors’ hearts to make them more like you. Amen.
