SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE

The Christian prayer life can sometimes feel stale. It doesn’t mean your faith is weak, or that you’re doing something wrong—so don’t get hung up on it! It just happens. But if you want to connect with God and don’t know how to pray, or simply don’t feel like praying…then these everyday prayers are for you.

I’m Worried About a Meeting

Those times when you get a text that says, “I’d like to talk to you about something, could we meet?” No context. No hint as to what’s coming. Just a sense that all is not well, and the dreaded wait to find out what it is. 😱😰😫

Or maybe there’s a meeting coming up with your boss, or friend, or small group that, well, you know exactly what the tension is about. Perhaps your heart is beating a bit faster, and your mind can’t stop thinking about it, forming the things you hope you’ll say (and maybe a few things you wish you could say, but won’t).

Disagreements and tension don’t have to end relationships, however. They can also strengthen them and bring clarity. So, as we prepare for our next uncomfortable meeting, this is the Scripture we’re thinking about and the prayer we’re praying.

Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it” (Psalm 34:14).

A Prayer Before a Tense Meeting

Trinity-God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—who lives in perfect unity and models self-sacrificial love, go before us into this meeting. Peacemaker and Peacegiver, fill our hearts with restful trust in you. May we be kind to one another by being clear. May we be patient with one another by listening well. And may you help us navigate the ups and downs of this relationship as we aim to encourage and challenge one another in love. Amen.
