SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE

Reading the Bible is an important part of how we can grow in our faith, but we know many people question why the Bible is not relevant for today. With its old language and confusing references, it can feel irrelevant or disconnected. But these Scripture meditations are meant to help us bridge that disconnect and encounter reasons why the Bible IS relevant.

Blame Avoidance

So half the time we try to talk our way out of blame for something, we probably 𝘢𝘳𝘦 to blame (at least a little)—even if we’re not alone in carrying fault, and even when other people are guilty of something worse, odds are, we’re not blameless either.

But instead of pouring our efforts into fiercely defending ourselves, or pointing out the flaws in those around us so we feel less “wrong,” there is freedom (and a whole lot of relief) in owning our mistakes, recognizing they don’t define us, and asking for God’s mercy to lead us to a better way.

Psalm 6:1-2

Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger
    or discipline me in your wrath.
Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am faint;
    heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony.

What This Tells Us about God

  • He doesn’t have to rebuke a humble heart (v. 1)
  • He is quick to extend mercy (v. 2)
  • His forgiveness heals (v. 2)
