SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE
2 Samuel 6:14-15
“How to get started reading the Bible”—we’ve all googled it before. No matter how far you’ve come on your faith journey, reading the Bible can be hard! We’re right there with you. We see these Scripture meditations as a way to read Scripture in a digestible way. Let’s start together, one verse at a time!
Time to Dance
Ecclesiastes tells us there is “a season for every activity under the heavens,” and that includes a time to DANCE! 💃🪩 (Ecclesiastes 3:4)
What comes to mind when you think of a good time to dance? Maybe it’s a wedding reception, a concert, or a night out with friends. Frankly… unless you’re from very specific denominations, it’s less common to associate dance as an act of praise or worship. But in the Bible, we see times when the joy of the Lord moves his people to dance!
In 2 Samuel 6, King David moves the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem, and in doing so, he brings God’s presence and glory before all of Israel. Anticipating the blessing of God’s presence, David leads the procession with dancing and singing.
David demonstrates that dancing can be an act of humility, an expression of commitment, and a beautiful way to praise God.
2 Samuel 6:14-15
“14 Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might, 15 while he and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of trumpets.”
Observations from the Text
- David danced humbly with whole-hearted commitment to God (v. 14)
- Worship can be a lively, joyful experience (v. 14-15)
- God’s presence is cause for worship (v. 15)
