Trying to build a prayer life can be difficult—whether you don’t know how to pray or you don’t feel like praying. So we’re here to help you connect with God with simple prayers for the everyday.
I Can’t Focus on Anything
Ever feel like your brain is made of tabs? Open, buzzing, unfocused—and no idea where the music is coming from?
You sit down to do one thing, and suddenly you’ve opened seven apps, reheated your coffee twice, and somehow ended up deep diving into the plot of a movie you haven’t seen in years or on a rabbit Wikipedia trail following the genealogy of European monarchs (just us?).
We all have days when our minds just won’t settle.
Whether you’re trying to work, study, pray, or just rest, it can be frustrating to feel like your brain’s all over the place. But we’re not the first people to struggle with this. The Psalms are full of people asking God to help them remember, concentrate, stay the course.
The writers of Scripture knew that distraction wasn’t just about attention span—it was often a symptom of stress, worry, fear, or grief. And instead of powering through, they brought that to God.
If you’re feeling scattered, here’s a prayer to bring your full, distracted self before the One who still holds you close. You don’t need perfect concentration to be close to him. Just a willing heart—even a distracted one.
“Turn my eyes from worthless things, and give me life through your word” (Psalm 119:37).
A Prayer for When You Can’t Focus
God of clarity and calm, you see the swirl of everything I’m carrying—the thoughts I can’t hold still, the tasks I can’t keep track of, the rest I can’t seem to find. I want to focus. I want to be present. But today, it feels hard. So, I offer even this moment to you. Help me take one deep breath. Help me choose one next step. And help me remember that you don’t measure my worth by my productivity or performance. Amen.
