A Prayer for Transfiguration

SCRIPTURE REFERENCE

Matthew 17:2

Trying to build a prayer life can be difficult—whether you don’t know how to pray or you don’t feel like praying. So we’re here to help you connect with God with simple prayers for the everyday.

What Does The Transfiguration Mean?

Some moments are meant to change us.

On the mountain, after Jesus’s glory was revealed, the disciples who witnessed it were never the same. In that brilliant, holy, mysterious moment, they glimpsed the fullness of who he truly was—the Son of God. And sometimes, in our own lives, God gives us glimpses, too. A shift in perspective. A sudden clarity. A deeper understanding of himself that leaves us different than before.

The Transfiguration, which many in the church remember and celebrate on August 6, reminds us that Jesus is more radiant, powerful, and near than we often recognize—and that we’re invited to be transformed in his presence, becoming more like him, little by little.

If you’re longing to see God more clearly and become more fully who you’re meant to be, this prayer is for you.

“There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light” (Matthew 17:2).

A Prayer for Transfiguration

Radiant Christ, who shone with glory on the mountain, let me see you clearly today. Not just in the awe of holy moments, but in the middle of my ordinary life. Open my eyes to who you truly are, and in seeing you, begin to change me. Shape my thoughts, soften my heart, and help me reflect your image. Even when the world around me feels dim, may your presence be my clarity and hope. Transform me by your love, until I shine a little more like you. Amen.
