SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE

The prayer life of a Christian can sometimes become tiresome, especially if you don’t feel like praying. We hope our simple prayers centered around everyday life will provide some guidance and help you grow in your prayer life

I’m Not Having Fun

It’s the beginning of the day, and you’re already tired. Between work, grocery shopping, cleaning the house… you hardly have the energy to get through these necessary tasks, let alone to make time for fun. You find yourself growing more irritable and just generally feeling… blah.

Seeing the kids playing outside makes you nostalgic (and kinda jealous?), remembering times when life felt less pressured or complicated. When anything could become a game and laughter was a default setting.

“But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it” (Luke 18:16-17).

You were created to experience joy. The world around you is full of glimpses of God’s creativity and playfulness– from odd animals, to the giggles of children, to inside jokes between friends.

The next time you find yourself feeling stuck in a cycle of seriousness, try this prayer for playfulness, asking God for a spirit of joy (Lord knows we all need it).

A Prayer for Playfulness

Lord of the platypus and the otter, your playfulness pervades the earth. Just as you called children to you, help me to remember myself as your child. Take the weight of solemnity off my chest, and replace it with delight and curiosity. Source of Joy, help me see the opportunities for playfulness and laughter in life around me, and let me be inspired to participate in your good gifts. Help holy merriment overflow abundantly in my life, as a light that reflects you. Amen.
