Lord, Make It Right

How you interact with the word justice can depend a lot on how close you are to injustice. For those who’ve experienced life going more-or-less how they’d expect, justice is perhaps more theoretical. For those who’ve been victims of abuse, watched friends or family members treated unfairly by people in positions of power, or experienced injustice in society— the word is personal. 

Unfortunately, the world is broken and full of injustice. Slavery is more rampant than ever. Human trafficking happens in nearly every city and neighborhood. The news features stories of governments exploiting people while favoring others. There are people who started so far behind that they can never get ahead. People are treated with suspicion for the color of their skin, what they wear, what they have or don’t have, or because of their accents. The amount of injustice in our world can feel overwhelming…

If you’re there, we are too, and here’s the prayer we pray when we are desperate for God to make things right.

“Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you” (Psalm 89:14).

A Prayer for Justice

Justice Maker and Justice Keeper, you care about the most vulnerable. You defend the orphan, the widow, and the immigrant. Father of All, you created the people of every nation, tribe, and tongue to be your children, and know your love. Please look down and see the rampant injustice in this world. Today, I’m especially bothered by _________. Please stop these agents of darkness from causing any more pain, and help me see what I can do to join you in making things right. Amen.
