SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE

Trying to build a prayer life can be difficult—whether you don’t know how to pray or you don’t feel like praying. So we’re here to help you connect with God with simple prayers for the everyday.

It’s Time to Eat

Food is a common component of any celebration. Whether a backyard bbq, a potluck with friends, or a birthday extravaganza, we love to gather together and share a meal. We indulge in sweet treats, we make recipes that have been passed down for generations, we try new and exciting things– all parts of the joy and merriment that comes from being together.

Just as Israel honored God’s provision, as David feasted with warriors, as Jesus celebrated holidays and weddings with his friends, feasting provides us with an opportunity to celebrate the good and kind gifts of God and can turn a mere physical experience into a spiritual reminder.

As you prepare to feast with those you love, here’s a Scripture and a prayer to help us remember God’s blessings in this moment.

“How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!

    People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.

They feast on the abundance of your house;

    you give them drink from your river of delights.

For with you is the fountain of life;

    in your light we see light” (Psalm 36:7-9).

A Prayer for Feasting

God of the Harvest, our cups are overflowing. Be present as we celebrate the abundance of this meal. Your hand has guided the weather, the workers, and the wagons (er, trucks?), all in preparation for this moment. In times of scarcity, remind us of the promise of your provision. In times of plenty, give us spirits of generosity and eyes open to those in need. And, in every season, may we continually bless your faithfulness. Amen.
