It’s Christmas Day!
Christmas morning can hold a lot at once. There may be joy and celebration, but there can also be tiredness, grief, memories of other years, or the quiet ache of things not being as simple as we wish they were. And sometimes, even in the middle of a day that’s supposed to feel holy and full of meaning, we feel distracted or numb or busy.
The good news of Christmas is that God doesn’t wait for us to feel a certain way in order to meet us. Jesus didn’t arrive in a “perfect” moment—he came into real life, with real noise and real mess. God stepped into the world as it actually is.
So, whatever this morning looks like—full house, quiet home, messy kitchen, excited kids, or heavy disappointment—God is with you in it. Not far away. Not waiting for your heart to “rise to the occasion.” But present, steady, and near.
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).
A Prayer for Christmas Morning
God of glory, God with us, on this sacred morning we remember the hush of that holy night—when angels sang and hope was born. Thank you for coming near, for stepping into our world, not in grandeur but in humility. Let the wonder of your arrival soften our hearts. As we wake to joy and celebration, may we also wake to your presence—hidden in quiet moments, shared meals, laughter, and love. Let every part of this day, and all those that follow, echo the glad news: you are here. Amen.
