Post Vacation Blues
It’s hard to come back to reality after a good vacation. It had taken a few days to adjust, but you’d finally settled into rest, your body let go of tension, and you remembered what it’s like to breathe a little deeper… But then Monday hits—or the flight lands—and it’s easy to feel like all the peace is gone. All you’re left with is a mountain of laundry, 50 unread emails, and a fleeting memory of relaxation that’s starting to feel like a dream.
The truth is, rest isn’t meant to stay behind in the mountains, by the ocean, or the landscape of a new city. The same God who met you in that quiet moment, in that beauty, in that laughter—he’s here too, in the noise, in the rush, in the laundry piles and to-do lists.
So if you’re home again and already missing the slowness you just tasted, here’s a prayer for after vacation. A reminder that God’s rest isn’t a location—it’s a presence we carry with us.
“He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters” (Psalm 23:2).
A Prayer After Vacation
Crafter of beauty and rest, thank you for the gift of pause—for days unmeasured by schedules, for skies and seas that stretched wide, for laughter that echoed through carefree moments. In the time and space where routine was set aside, I found room to breathe, think, and simply be. Now, as I return home, let the peace I found remain. Help me carry the joy of rest into the rhythm of my daily life, remembering that your presence goes with me—not just in the extraordinary but in the ordinary too. Amen.
