1. Even Jesus rested in the middle of chaos.
“But Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion…” (Mark 4:38).
While a literal storm threatened the boat, Jesus slept. Why? Because he trusted the Father. Resting isn’t giving up—it’s trusting that the world doesn’t fall apart when you do.
2. God literally created rest before sin existed.
“By the seventh day God had finished the work… so on the seventh day he rested” (Genesis 2:2–3).
Rest isn’t a result of brokenness—it’s part of God’s original design. Sabbath wasn’t a recovery plan; it was woven into the rhythm of creation.
3. Sabbath is a gift.
“The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath” (Mark 2:27).
Sabbath isn`t about checking spiritual boxes. It’s a life-giving invitation to slow down, breathe deeply, and remember you are not a machine.
4. Rest is resistance in a burnout culture.
“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy” (Exodus 20:8).
In a world that glorifies hustle and productivity, Sabbath becomes a bold declaration: “I trust God more than I trust my own striving.”
5. Rest is more than physical.
“There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God…” (Hebrews 4:9).
Rest is holy not because you finished your to-do list, but because Jesus finished the work on the cross. Because of this, the rest Jesus offers is deeper than just the physical. It is spiritual rest for your soul, and a rest that extends through eternity.

What comes into your mind when you read “sharing the Gospel”? Fear? Joy? Pressure? A way to make your pastor happy? Something we should all care more about?
Terms like evangelism—spreading the good news about Jesus—can be uncomfortable to some and an exciting invitation to others. It’s also a pretty misunderstood concept. Sometimes people feel the need to find strangers on the street, interrupt whatever it is they’re up to, and try to engage them in conversation. Others feel pretty passionate about needing to have a personal relationship with someone first. And then most of us, let’s be real, just avoid this altogether! 😅
It doesn’t need to be so complicated. Sharing the good news that Jesus rescues us from sin and death and invites us into a better life with him, is kind of like talking about your favorite sports team or favorite restaurant. Of course, it’s more important than those things, but talking about Jesus should be just as easy as sharing about other things you’re passionate about.
So next time you feel called to share the Gospel or know that you’re getting ready to hang out with a friend where it might come up, check out this Scripture and pray this prayer.

Jesus, I have found so much joy in following you, and you have done so much for me. I’m thankful for your kindness, forgiveness, healing, and comfort. I want everyone to know what it’s like to do life with you and be filled with your Spirit. Help me know when and where to tell others about how you’ve met me and changed my life. Help me to truly listen and ask good questions. Help me to really care about others, and first show them your love. Holy Spirit, please give me your words. Amen.

In a world full of constant noise and distraction, sometimes we need to follow the example of Jesus and find a place to be alone.
Jesus used silence and solitude to reconnect with God in times when he needed rest. We see this after his ministry grew busy, when he wrestled with grief after the death of his cousin, John, and to prepare for important moments, like the Sermon on the Mount, as well as his death on the cross.
If Jesus, who lives in perfect union with his Father, still prioritized alone time with God, how much more important might this practice be in our lives?
Maybe solitude looks like escaping the busyness of the workday by taking lunch by yourself. Perhaps it means becoming less connected or available by putting your phone in a different room. You might need to try waking up before the rest of your household to take some time to rest in the presence of God before the chaos of the day takes over.
However you’re able to make a quiet space, God wants to meet you there.

“15 Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. 16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”

You can still benefit from alone time when things are going well (v. 15)
Don’t be afraid to pause efforts to be sure you’re spending time with God (v. 16)
Sometimes we need to get away from the busyness of our routines (v. 16)

Quiet Savior, I want to rest in a lonely place with you.
Jesus, help me remove distractions and quiet my mind to be present with you.

God, I’m feeling overwhelmed by ________. Give me your peace.
Jesus, show me places in my routine where I can make more space for you.

Lord, I’m going to spend the next 10 minutes in silence, sitting in your presence.
Father, help me come to you in good times and in bad.

It might’ve been the best day of your life today, or it might’ve been one of the worst. Either way, eventually, all days end. And no matter how hard we try to keep going, every day we need to collapse into our bed and hit the reset button.
While sometimes slowing, stopping, and sleeping can feel like a necessary evil, we believe that it’s really kind of God to create us with limits, and to encourage us to embrace them. Right when we’re at the end of all we can do, we start to step into the space where God takes things out of our hands and works with them for good. So let’s reclaim our sleep together, and invite God into the night, where he allows us to return to rest.
𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞:
The Lord is gracious and righteous;
our God is full of compassion.
The Lord protects the unwary;
when I was brought low, he saved me.
Return to your rest, my soul,
for the Lord has been good to you.
(Psalm 116: 5-7).

God who reigns over day and night, walk with me into these dark and quiet moments of evening. Thank you for the gift of life you have given me today. Protect me from the temptations of the night, and allow my body and soul the deep rest they need. Help me to trust that, even when my heart is asleep to your nearness, you are still watching over me. I’m laying down my own strength and trusting you, Sustainer of Life, that in the morning, my soul will awaken again in your good presence.
