SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE
Matthew 8:26-27
If you don’t know how to pray, getting started can feel strange. So, check out this simple prayer to help you grow in your prayer life, and connect with God today!
Thinking About Hard Memories
It’s the perfect day. There’s a slight breeze and no clouds in sight. You have a cooler full of sandwiches, iced tea, and snacks to your left and laughing friends and family (or your favorite book) to your right. Your only concern is how you’re gonna get all this sand out of your car…until that one painful memory comes up, and it stings all over again.
Let’s be real– sometimes life sucks, and unfortunately, hurtful memories can resurface even on the sunniest days. And while we’re all carrying different burdens that feel much heavier than a beach bag, cooler, and umbrella, we can all agree that being on the beach, feeling the warm sun on your skin, and listening to the waves pursue the shore is enough to make us feel like everything is going to be alright (even if it’s just for a little while).❤️
Take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy this beach day, remembering that even the wind and waves obey him.

“Jesus responded, ‘Why are you afraid? You of so little faith!’ Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm. The disciples were amazed. ‘Who is this man?’ they asked. ‘Even the winds and waves obey him!’” (Matthew 8:26-27).
A Prayer for Processing at the Beach
God of sunny days and wind and waves, thank you for days like today when we get to sit on the beach and be reminded of your goodness. When the waves rise, and we feel like we’re drowning, remind us that even the wind and waves obey you. Thank you for pursuing us like the waves pursue the shore. As we sit on the beach, feeling the warmth of the sun sink into our skin, may we feel the warmth of your love, too. Amen.
