SCRIPTURE REFERENCE
The Christian prayer life can sometimes feel stale. It doesn’t mean your faith is weak, or that you’re doing something wrong—so don’t get hung up on it! It just happens. But if you want to connect with God and don’t know how to pray, or simply don’t feel like praying…then these everyday prayers are for you.
Making Home Improvements
The screens on the porch need to be replaced. The bedroom could use a fresh coat of paint. That wobbly chair in the living room is broken, still. And you would really, really love to update the kitchen counters. But then a toilet floods the basement, and you have to work on that instead.
Whether home projects are exciting or exhausting, they’re a reminder that our spaces—like our lives—are always works in progress. As we patch, paint, and repair, we can invite God into the process, remembering that he is the true builder of our homes and hearts.
And while a finished project brings a certain satisfaction, the process itself is where patience, gratitude, and creativity grow. We like to imagine that Jesus experienced a bit of this too, during the many years he spent as a carpenter.
So, as you take on the next task, here’s a Scripture and a prayer to bring the work of your hands before him.
“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain” (Psalm 127:1a).
A Prayer for House Projects
Carpenter, Jesus, the work of your hands shaped wood and stone into something purposeful, built shelter, and mended what was broken. As I take on this project—big or small—help me work with patience and joy, seeing not just a task but an opportunity to create, restore, and steward well what I’ve been given. When frustrations rise, give me perseverance. When progress is slow, remind me that you are also shaping me through the process. May this home be a place of welcome and beauty — a shelter of love, and a reflection of your care for us. Amen.
