Trying to build a prayer life can be difficultโwhether you donโt know how to pray or you donโt feel like praying. So weโre here to help you connect with God with simple prayers for the everyday.ย
I Gave In Again
Thereโs nothing like the guilt and shame that follows us around when we lose control. Especially if itโs been a while. If weโve been strong for so long (even if, for us, thatโs a day or 2). And then we give in. We click on the link. Or go to that store. Or visit that โfriend.โย
Listen up. Seriously. Pay attention! You need to read this next line: God is not ashamed of you, and he loves you so much. Heโs not embarrassed by you. Heโs not horrified or surprised. You canโt make him run away from you that easily. In fact, even in your darkest moments, heโs still with you because he never leaves or forsakes those he loves. All that shame you feel? Itโs not coming from God. All that condemnation? Thatโs not the Holy Spirit. Yes, God wants you to experience his freedom and forgiveness, but when you give in to the chainsโhe still loves you, as he always has.
โBut you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. Turn to me and have mercy on me; show your strength on behalf of your servant; save me, because I serve youโฆโ (Psalm 86:15-16a).
A Prayer for Addiction Recovery
Compassionate and loving Father, forgive me for giving in again. Surround me with your presence and your love, and relieve this shame. Jesus, help me believe that you did not come into the world to condemn me, but to bring me new life. Holy Spirit, you are freedom and peace, bring me freedom from this addiction and peace with my weakness. May I not be ashamed to call for help. God, be my strength and save me, please. Amen.ย
